THIS IS AFRICAN-AMERICAN WORK. URBAN FICTION, MULTICULTURAL, BLACK FICTION Married to Madness is a carnal and off the wall escapade through a fascinating couple’s matrimony. After surviving the fury of a homicidal lunatic, Brandon Cerasani only leaves her home once a month. That is until her daughter comes to her with news of abuse that changes it all. Brandon gathers the courage to face her fears and take a life for retribution unleashing a bloodlust hidden deep in her. The monster she slowly becomes is one that her children, but especially her husband, won’t accept. Zack Cerasani is laid back and at times odd, but it doesn’t stop him from trying to save the world be it as a soldier in the Army or a mentor in public school. He’s no Superman, but maybe a murderous Batman might be a better description. Death is Zack’s life and he walks worthy of his calling; however, he’s no serial killer. He’s just someone who makes things right in very many wrong ways. Neither knows of the other’s secret life and only madness will happen if the truth gets out. Brandon revels in blood. Killing people is a sport to her and anyone can be prime game. So what’s Zack, a man who rights wrongs, to do with a sociopath for a wife? Can he find the courage to stop a fanatical murderess that’s also the love of his life? “Zack remembers when the cops found Roberto’s body six weeks ago. That poor bastard was mutilated inside and out and Teresa’s mother was to blame. Both he and Lee never believed that and were at a lost for what kind of deranged individual could have done some sick crap like that. It never crossed Zack’s mind that he’d be making love with her.”

Married to Madness Devin Shane Books

This book would be considered action/gritty romance because it is very similar to Mr. and Mrs. Smith without the love. You have a couple who love each other very much, live in a nice house in a great neighborhood. Pretty much that perfect couple that is easy to be jealous over because their lives look perfect. But under all of that perfection are two people who are far from perfect. Their relationship is violent when they physically fight with each other, leave and then come back without skipping a beat. Zach's Father in law leads this group of men who go around killing the underbelly of the city. They feel they are doing the right thing by getting rid of the drug dealers, child molesters..Etc The madness is defiantly there. Both main characters work with groups of people who go out and murder bad people. They have little to no feeling about committing cold blooded murder on any given night. Zach spent time fighting for his country so he feels what he does is the right thing but his wife Brandon is unable at times to seperate right from wrong. She was brutally raped and damaged by the man she killed with the skills Zach taught her.
The book tends to jump around at times which can be hard to follow and the grammatical issues can be frustrating. I think the book has a lot of potential but needs some tweaking!

Married to Madness Devin Shane Books Reviews

Brandon and Zack have a successful marriage, a great family and home, and they participate in a variety of philanthropic efforts. However, they're each hiding a big secret from each other; they're each in vigilante groups, killing murderers and rapists by night. It's obvious that the two cherish their families more than anything and want to protect them, but can they keep up a double life and keep their families out of harm's way? I liked seeing how the family interacted; aside from Brandon and Zack there are several kids who were interesting and unique in their own ways.

The early parts of the book are dedicated to building up the background and establishing the normalcy of the characters. I thought these parts dragged on a little, but after a few chapters the story truly took off and from there it was filled with action and crazy twists. Brandon and Zack are well fleshed out. The book delves into their pasts, which shaped their current vigilantism and some of their other vices and habits.

The writing was not always grammatically correct, and sometimes the exposition became too informal for my tastes. Still, it wasn't hard to understand. I liked all the little details of their lives that established their normality; the kind of music they listen too, for example.
I would place this book, Married to Madness, in the genre of fiction, with some dramatic fiction. The premise of the plot is about a married couple, Brandon and Zack, and their current lives as well as their history. This is somewhat similar to other fictional works but the characters and their situations are not similar to other works I’ve previously read.
The author, Devin Shane, is a great storyteller and provides interesting character descriptions. My favorite parts of the novel were those that dealt with the main characters pasts. The author is not as good at being clear with what is going on in the present day with the characters which made it hard to follow the story. My final verdict on the book is that it’s a good story but not really my favorite. The characters are likeable but not necessarily realistic and I have trouble identifying with them. They do talk like real people and make their interactions more enjoyable.
The plot is completely unpredictable which makes it exciting but kind of difficult to follow. It moves at a somewhat erratic pace and kind of makes sense but had a pretty satisfying ending. The author’s writing definitely improves the experience of the book and they provide really great descriptions.
This book says it's African-American urban but honestly, I didn't realize they were going for a specific African-American audience. I'm not in that demographic and I don't think it caused me any problems. The basic concept of this book is Mr. And Mrs. Smith but with more chaos. Both of the spouses have secret violent hobbies and the story is as much about how they relate to each other as it is about the actual story.

What the book does the best is create real, functional characters. Each of the spouse's back stories is well fleshed out and complex. The characters themselves are consistent and not too uneven. The story is fast-paced and interesting. The primary reason I'm giving this two stars instead of three is because the writing was uneven enough to cause distraction while reading. Better, more comprehensive editing would have raised this book to three stars easily. The other issue I had was that I had trouble buying into some of the character quirks. Both of these people are supposed to be responsible and deeply in love but the husband is not even trying to be faithful and the wife is carrying guns around and leaving them out in a house full of children. I think you can have obsessive self-protective instincts that leads to sloppy gun safety OR you can be dedicated to the children's safety but not both. These glitches in the character portraits were a bit distracting to me as well.

Overall, this is a fast, fun read. I would read more from this author because I think there is great potential here. If they get a more aggressive editor I think the next book could be amazing.
